Kindness-themed Holiday Message

I’m so grateful for the past year.  I have been inspired. I have been disappointed. I have asked questions, and received some in return. However, upon reflection, the common thread throughout the year, for me, has been kindness.

We shouldn’t wait for something tragic or life-changing to flip the kindness switch on. And yet, we sometimes do. We shouldn’t have to endure pain in any form to find compassion and empathy. And yet, we often do.  Why can’t we just realize what’s really important without needing a catalyst?

Don’t get me wrong; I’m still all about which fork to use! However, I remain steadfast in my belief that how we treat one another is paramount to our personal and professional success. Our social fabric depends on it!

Kindness begets kindness. If we were a little kinder on the road, would there be fewer accidents? If we were a little kinder at work, would we be more productive? If we were a little kinder with friends and family, would we enjoy each other’s company more? If we were a little kinder to ourselves, would we feel better?

We are all human. We are social. We need to slow down, put down the electronic distractions and acknowledge, respect, and listen to one another.  People who feel listened to don’t act out for attention.  People who feel respected feel good about themselves.  People who feel acknowledged feel a sense of purpose.

I believe that the human spirit is inherently kind. Sometimes, it just needs a gentle reminder, a coaxing if you will, that it has a duty to be so.

My wish this Christmas is for all of us to reconnect with our kind selves and strengthen the connection throughout the coming year.  It may be challenging at times, but together we are capable.

I look forward to connecting with you in 2013. Until then, I wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday season.
